Govardhan Puja 2026 in Mumbai falls on Tuesday, November 10, 2026. Sunrise is 6:43 AM GMT+5:30.
Krishna lifted Govardhan hill on his little finger for seven days, sheltering Braj from Indra’s deluge and teaching that devotion and one’s own dharma outweigh pride. Worship of the hill — and of cows, the givers of nourishment — marks the day.
Annakut, "the mountain of food": temples and homes build a small Govardhan of cow dung or grain and offer vast spreads of food, grandest at Nathdwara and the ISKCON and Vaishnava temples. In Gujarat this day is Bestu Varas — the new year.
Circumambulating Govardhan hill (parikrama) in Braj today draws lakhs. Offer a chappan bhog — or simply cook something with love and offer it before eating.
